Stuzzichini

If you are from Southern Italy, the word stuzzichini will evoke thoughts of a myriad of tantalising appetisers. Stuzzichini is derived from the word stuzzicare which can mean 'to pick at, to whet (as in appetite), to stimulate, or to tantalise'.

Stuzzichini is not easily defined but stuzzichino, the plural of stuzzichini, more-or-less means 'to have and enjoy a vast range of appetisers'. The word antipasto comes from Latin, meaning 'before a meal'; but in Italy, it is meant as stuzzichino, or a 'taste of foods that stimulate the appetite' or 'to try a little bit of everything'.
